Exceptional Fat-Bodied Redware Cream Pitcher with Heavy Copper Glaze over Yellow Slip, attributed to S. Bell & Son, Strasburg, VA, late 19th century, highly-ovoid creamer with footed base, flared rim, and applied strap handle, decorated with heavy copper glaze over cream-colored slip and covered in a clear lead glaze. Strasburg, VA redware with such profuse green coloration is quite difficult to find. Certainly one of the finest Shenandoah Valley creamers to be offered in years. Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. Wear to edge of foot. Small in-the-firing contact mark to handle. Wear and/ or contact marks to top of rim, much of which appears to be in-the-firing. H 5 1/2".
