Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Stamped "RIEDINGER & CAIRE / POUGHKEEPSIE NY", circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a pedestal-based urn with open handles, brimming with a flowering plant. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Significant restoration to surface on left side of crock's front. A thin, sealed 5 1/4" crack from rim on reverse. Adhesive residue to left side of crock. A small iron ping to left side of crock's front. A tiny rim chip. Some light wear to cobalt on right side of decoration.
