Scarce Six-Gallon Maysville, KY Stoneware Advertising Jar with Elaborate Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "N. COOPER & POWER / MAYSVILLE" and "HAMILTON / Greensboro, Pa", circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooling to midsection and shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with looping freehand vines at the shoulder, an undulating vine below, stripes throughout, and a freehand "6" flanked by dashes near the base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Reverse with scarce "N. COOPER & POWER / MAYSVILLE" merchant stamp above the maker's stamp of William Leet Hamilton and a six-gallon capacity mark. The inclusion of both the merchant mark and the maker's mark on the same jar is unusual. A 1 1/8" rim chip on reverse. A second, small rim chip on reverse. Three minor chips to interior of rim. Very minor wear to ends of three handles. H 16 1/2".
