Very Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stenciled "BOYERS & HARDEN / PALATINE / W VA", circa 1875, semi-ovoid pitcher with tooling to midsection and tall collar culminating in a semi-rounded molding, the front featuring the boldly-stenciled inscription, "BOYERS & HARDEN / PALATINE / WVA". Stenciled flourishes throughout body. Collar decorated with thick cobalt dashes along the spout. Midsection with cobalt stripe. An additional accidental stroke of cobalt slip appears on the reverse. One of a small number of Palatine pitchers known, this example also features a beautiful, vibrant cobalt slip uncommon to pieces produced in this city. Spout chips. Some wear to high points of cobalt. H 11 1/4".
