Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "FLACK & VAN ARSDALE / CORNWALL, ONT.", circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with spotted body and solid wing, perched on a stylized branch. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A 4" tight hairline from rim on revere. A faint 1 3/4" line at base on reverse. A chip and glazed-over dent to left handle. A chip to right handle. A 3 3/4" tight hairline from rim and a 3 1/2" faint surface line from rim. Staining to surface. Spots of fry to cobalt. A few chips on interior of rim. Some light scaling to surface.
