Scarce Handled Spittoon with Foliate Decoration, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, with footed base, heavily-ribbed handles, and carved oval opening at shoulder, decorated with a brushed foliate design on the front and reverse, along with additional scalloped brushwork surrounding the opening. Heavy circular cobalt highlights to handle terminals and brushed swags underneath each handle. An approximately 2 3/4" semi-circular crack at edge on underside, with chipping along the crack line. Otherwise excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 5 1/2" ; Diameter 10".
