Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a pheasant with turned head, perched on a stump. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A small hole plugged with a cork on left side. A 3 3/4" inverted Y-shaped line to right side. Several small spout chips. A 1 1/4" base chip. Two small pings on underside. An in-the-firing 2" T-shaped line on top of handle.
