Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Leaping Rabbit Decoration, Stamped "JULIUS NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1845, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of a leaping rabbit in the classic Norton style. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 2 1/2" hairline from rim on front. A 1 1/4" hairline from rim on right side of jar. Several small chips to interior of rim. Chips and wear to inner rim where a lid would rest. A small chip to right handle. H 11 1/2".
