Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Sun Face and Bird Motifs, attributed to Xerxes Price, Sayreville, NJ, early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted medallion featuring a face surrounded by rays. Reverse with impressed and cobalt-highlighted medallion depicting a walking bird with scalloped border. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Jar was broken into three pieces and restored, including a crack through the bird motif. An additional long vertical hairline to body, extending downward and across underside. Base chips.
