Fine Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, probably Crolius Family, late 18th or early 19th century, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout and footed base, decorated with a cobalt design featuring splayed, scalloped leaves. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. This decoration copies the well-known incised designs most commonly associated with the Crolius family of Manhattan, NY. Excellent size, decoration, and color. A thin horizontal crack through handle. Several base chips, the largest measuring 1". A 5/8" line at base on reverse, probably in-the-firing. H 16".
