Unusual Glazed Redware Figure of an American Indian, American, 19th century, the figure of an American Indian with molded face and hand-modeled body, decorated with coleslaw headdress and clothing, holding a tomahawk and seated on a tree stump by a fire composed of hand-modeled clay logs and extruded clay coleslaw. Surface covered in a dark-brown lead-and-manganese glaze. Some old green paint to fire. Base broken into two pieces and reglued. Loss to tomahawk. An in-the-firing, glazed-over loss to the tip of an object in the Indian's other hand. Wear to surface. Shallow base chips. L 5 7/8" ; H 4 3/4".
