Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, Stamped "ADAM CAIRE / PO'KEEPSIE N Y", circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a chicken pecking kernels of corn with a stylized hill, accented with numerous dashes and flanked by shrubs. Provenance: David Musser Collection. An in-the-firing iron ping near base. An approximately 5 3/4" in-the-firing line from rim on front, barely visible on exterior. A vertical surface line to shoulder area on front, measuring 3 3/4", not visible on interior. A 3/4" salt drip to rim on reverse. A small chip on interior of rim.
