Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Philadelphia, PA origin, circa 1860, cylindrical churn with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with tulips and graduated leaves emanating from a curved stem. Additional vertical slash decoration under each handle and cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A difficult-to-find Philadelphia stoneware form. Provenance: David Musser Collection. Professional restoration to underside, extending vertically up side of churn to area below handle. A small chip to interior of rim. A small stone ping to exterior of rim.
