Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Eastern Shore of Maryland Advertising, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, impressed with the advertising "J F JESTER / DEALER IN / DRY GOODS, GROCERIES & C / NANTICOKE MD". Brushed cobalt clover decoration to two sides. A nicely-decorated example of this popular Maryland stoneware genre. Restored cracks on underside, extending onto base. A top-to-bottom restored crack on undecorated side of jar. Two short hairlines to rim area.
