One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher with Make-Do Handle, Massachusetts, circa 1870, ovoid pitcher with tooled shoulder and flared rim, the front decorated with crossed leaves flanking a tornado-shaped flourish. Decorated above with a stylized foliate accent. Additional cobalt dash decoration to rim. Reverse with well-constructed iron make-do handle, riveted through the wall of the pitcher and covered with rattan. A 1" shallow chip to interior of rim and a small chip to interior of rim. A hairline extending from rim to upper handle terminal. Some minor wear on left side of rim. A few spots of fry to cobalt.
