Fine Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, large-sized, semi-ovoid jug with tooled spout, decorated with a large stem bearing scrolled leaves and two daisy blossoms. Excellent spotted and scrolled details to interior of blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Outstanding size and artistry to decoration. A 1 1/4" chip to left side of spout. A small iron ping to right side of jug. Some light surface wear to jug, light wear to some cobalt, and bubbling to the cobalt spots at each blossom's center. Two minor in-the-firing contact marks to edge of spout. H 17 1/2".
