Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "MANTELL & THOMAS / PENN YAN", circa 1854-1856, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed flowering plant design featuring two blossoms with detailed interiors. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and lower handle terminal. Excellent color. A 1 3/4" chip to underside at edge of jug. Two base chips, both possibly caused in-the-firing. Two cracks in spout. A long glazed-over horizontal line at base.
