Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Drape Decoration, Stamped "J.B. CAIRE &. CO / POKEEPSIE NY", circa 1842-1843, squat-shaped jug with tooled shoulder and squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed scalloped drape design around the shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Includes wooden stopper. Excellent condition with a small spout chip, a worn spot to spout, and a minor, probably in-the-firing Y-shaped line at base, measuring 1 1/4".
