Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Folky Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "H B PFALTZGRAFF / YORK, PA," circa 1870-1889, cylindrical jug with flared spout, decorated on the front with a large brushed design of a bird with spotted breast and solid-cobalt wing, holding a worm in its beak. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Bird decorations from this historic Pennsylvania stoneware operation are considered rare. Provenance: Deaccessioned from the Pfaltzgraff Pottery Archives, York, PA. Missing handle. Two large chips to spout. Some staining.
