Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Bloomingdale Brothers, New York Advertising, New York City or New York State origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt stem bearing a stylized flower blossom or berries. Impressed above with cobalt-highlighted advertising for the historic Bloomingdale's department store in New York City, which reads "BLOOMINGDALE BROS. / 3rd AVE. & 59th STREET". Long hairline to underside. Hairlines to collar, including a 4 1/2" hairline, which extends from rim to one handle terminal. Rim chips, including tiny nicks to inner rim for lid.
