Anna Pottery Stoneware Pig Flask, Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1880, molded in the form of a reclining pig with hole at rear, incised snout and hooves, and anatomically-correct underside, the surface covered in a reddish-brown Albany slip glaze. One side incised with the inscription "St. Louis the future Capital / With a little fine old Bourbon in". Remainder of pig incised with a map of the Midwestern U.S., including the following landmarks: Miss River, Sandoval, Grand Tower, Odin, Centralia, Ashley, Duquoin, Carbondale, Mounds, Cairo, Ohio River, and Cincinnati the Pork City. This example is unusual in that it lacks incised eyes. Loss to one ear and small chip to same ear. Small chips to spout. A few chips to back feet, probably in-the-firing. A chipped area to back leg, possibly in-the-firing. L 7 1/2".
