Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Spittoon, Stamped "AMERICAN POTTERY CO. / JERSEY CITY, N.J.," circa 1840, molded octagonal spittoon with alternating relief flora designs. Impressed on underside with barely-visible, circular maker's mark of the American Pottery Company of Jersey City, New Jersey. Lines to top edge, with one extending down to shoulder of spittoon. Large chipped section to central hole and three lines emanating from central hole. A tiny chip to top near edge. H 4 3/4" ; W 8 1/4".
