Rare Large-Sized Stoneware Master Inkwell with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, probably New York State origin, second quarter 19th century, well-potted cylindrical form with footed base and heavy tooling to upper edge and top surface. Recessed hole at center surrounded by five smaller holes. Heavy cobalt decoration including dashes surrounding the opening, two rows of cobalt bands on top, and wavy cobalt brushworks around body. Excellent size. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from an inkwell collection amassed over the last thirty years, consigned to this auction. A 3/8" chip to top edge. Diameter 5 7/8" ; H 2 3/4".
