Extremely Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Fish Decoration, Stamped "J FENTON," Jonathan Fenton, Dorset, VT, circa 1800-1810, ovoid jug with footed base, slip-coated surface, and heavy tooling to shoulder and spout, featuring an impressed design of a fish. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, fish, and handle terminals. Few examples of this quality produced at Jonathan Fenton's early Dorset, Vermont operation are known. Some blue touch-up to 1" area of an in-the-firing contact mark on cheek area of fish. Otherwise excellent condition. H 11 3/4".
