Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Lion Decoration, Stamped "HART'S / FULTON," New York State origin, circa 1875, ovoid jug with semi-rounded rim, decorated with folky slip-trailed design of a large lion with heavy mane and upswept tail, reclining atop a stylized ground on looping lines. Slip-trailed "2" above. Highly desirable subject matter. One of the rarest Hart designs in existence. Professional restoration to a 3" x 1 1 2/" area above lion's back, with some touch-up to cobalt dashes along animal's back. Otherwise excellent condition with a thin 2 1/4" in-the-firing chip / contact mark to underside near edge.
