Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Double-Bird Decoration, Stamped "L. LEHMAN & CO. / WEST 12TH ST. NY," third quarter 19th century, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of a two birds with heavily-striped bodies and turned heads, seated on the blossoms of tulip plant. Includes a 19th century salt-glazed lid, Northeastern U.S. origin. Jar with professional restoration to an approximately 5 1/2" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim on reverse. Otherwise excellent condition. Lines and several chips to lid.
