Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1825, narrow pitcher with rounded shoulder and tall collar with tooled rim, heavily-decorated around the body with brushed tulips and swags extending from a central stem. Cobalt band around rim. Cobalt swags flanking the spout. Dashed cobalt brushwork on the sides of the collar. Large cobalt circles surrounding the handle terminals. An impressive piece, in need of restoration. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a Mid-Atlantic collection amassed during the 1950s-1970s. Missing handle. Significant loss to spout. Additional glazed-over flake to side of spout. Significant chipping to rim. Some crazing to surface. Several small flakes to front. Several small base chips. Numerous cracks to underside. H 14 1/4".
