Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate Paddletail Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON / UTICA, NY," circa 1885, ovoid churn with applied lug handles, flared collar, and tooled rim, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a large bird with paddle-shaped tail perched on a flowering plant. A few spots of touch up to fry in cobalt. Decoration is otherwise excellent. 1 3/4" rim chip beside a smaller rim chip. 8" crack from rim on reverse. Numerous sealed flakes to surface on right side of churn.
