Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W. HART / OGDENSBURGH," New York State origin, circa 1860, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, slightly-flared rim, and lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird's head with crest, long bill, and striped neck, above a looping flourish. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Some in-the-firing iron pings. Some fry to cobalt. Exfoliation to front base, sides, and reverse. A tight, in-the-firing separation line on interior of rim, not visible on exterior.
