Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Dog Decoration, Stamped "WEST TROY, / POTTERY.," New York State origin, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with heavily-tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a folky design of a dog with turned head and curled tail, reclining atop a stylized ground. Missing both handles. 8 1/4" crack from rim on front. 5" crack from rim on reverse. Significant flaking, primarily on reverse. Cracks at base. Base chips. A few chips on interior of rim. Two chips on exterior of rim.
