Very Unusual Salt-Glazed Stoneware Pitcher with Lion's Head Spout, possibly New York State or Midwestern origin, fourth quarter 19th century, tapered pitcher with tall, flaring collar, the spout with molded and applied head of a lion. Handle with applied cut-branch embellishments. Body decorated with abstract cobalt and manganese brushwork, including light incising throughout. Albany-slip-glazed interior. Top-to-bottom crack from rim. Minor chip to interior of rim. H 7 3/4".
