Scarce Six-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Bird and Floral Decoration, Stamped "EVAN R. JONES / PITTSTON, PA," circa 1880, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of a long-tailed bird perched on a leafy stem with graduated blossom. Excellent size and form. Unusual decoration for this maker. Heavy exfoliation to surface. 4 1/4" x 3 1/2" X-shaped line to front. 2 1/2" Y-shaped surface line to right side of front.
