Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "COMMERAWS STONEWARE," Thomas Commeraw, Manhattan, NY, circa 1810, ovoid jar with tooled based, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and back with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of swag interspersed with vertical dart-shaped impressions. These oval impressions are somewhat rarer than the three-pointed tassels typically found on Commeraw's work. Additional cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Heavy chips to base. Two conjoined contact marks on reverse. Small piece adhered to side under one handle. 6" diagonal line on front below maker's mark.
