Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt House Decoration, Midwestern origin, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, thin rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of a house with smoking chimney. An unusual and desirable decoration. Large sealed crack around section of base with a few hairlines extending off from it onto underside. Two small chips on exterior of rim and one small chip on interior of rim. Staining to surface.
