Unusual Salt-Glazed Stoneware Sculpture of a Mermaid, English or American, late 19th or early 20th century, small-sized, hand-modeled sculpture of a mermaid with heavily-incised hair and tail, reclining on an oblong base with starfish, shells, an eel, and other sea life. Brown salt-glazed surface. Unglazed, buff-colored clay on underside. Glazed-over loss to mermaid's tail and small section of base. Two small chips to applied decoration at base. L 4 1/2".
