Rare Diminutive Shenandoah Valley Redware Jar, Stamped "Backer," Anthony Bacher, Winchester, VA, circa 1870, small-sized, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, rounded rim, and lead-and-manganese-glazed interior. Impressed on underside with rare, early Anthony Bacher maker's mark, which reads simply "Backer". Small, shallow base chip. A few small, old rim chips, which have become smooth with age. Some additional wear to inner edge of rim. Some small, minor glaze flakes to interior base area. H 4 1/2".
