Exceptional Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER & G. GOETZMAN / ROCHESTER, N.Y.," circa 1855, cylindrical crock with rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a very large daisy plant, the blossom accented with heavily-spotted center and shaded petals, including a large curled stamen, additionally accented with spots. Slip-trailed "6" to left of maker's mark. Outstanding decoration and impressive size by one of New York State's most prized potteries. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a Midwestern collection Some light fry to cobalt, mostly on left side. Small recessed spot on lower right side of crock.
