Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1865, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with long tail, perched on a stylized leaf. 1 3/4" shallow flake on interior of rim and another minor in-the-firing chip on interior of rim. Shallow chip on front of rim. Two small rim chips on side of crock. Minor 1/2" surface line in rim. Some staining. 1" crack on underside, extending 4" up reverse. Minor base chip on reverse.
