Rare Large-Sized Stoneware Ashtray with Hand-Modeled African-American Bust, probably Southcentral U.S., late 19th century, large-sized ashtray with hand-modeled and applied bust of an African-American man with incised eyes, tooled hair, and cold-painted surface. An excellent sculptural folk art piece. Provenance: Recently found in Texas. Small shallow chip to base of figure's bust on reverse. Additional shallow chip to base of ashtray on reverse. Wear to hair. Paint wear. H 5 3/4”.
