Ten-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO, PA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar wiht tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with freehand stripes and vining, unusual diamond stenciling surrounding the name "HAMILTON & JONES," various other stenciled flourishes, and the unusual stenciled inscription "10 GALLON" at base. Reglued pieces to rim and shoulder area on front. Rim secured with wire. Salt drip to front. 8" crack from rim on reverse. Y-shaped crack on underside, continuing approximately 6" up base of jar. Salt drip at base on side of jar.
