Rare Large-Sized Spongeware Milk Jug with Lid, probably Midwestern origin, late 19th century, approximately five-gallon jug with wide spout and applied handle, decorated with crudely-brushed cobalt stripes over a white ground, flanking heavily-sponged cobalt circles. Shoulder decorated with darker blue; rim and original stoneware lid decorated with lighter blue. Jug with some restoration to right side of spout, otherwise excellent condition. Reglued flake on top of lid. H (of jug including lid) 17 1/4".
