Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Folky Cobalt Owl Decoration, Ohio origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of an owl with spotted breast and wing, beside a column of brushed cobalt number 4's. Unusual and desirable figural design. Significant cracks in underside (including a small hole in underside), with some cracks extending onto base. Some small, shallow chips to rim.
