Four-Gallon Manganese-Decorated Stoneware Jar, attributed to S. Bell & Son, Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, cylindrical jar with lug handles, decorated with brushed manganese swags over whitish slip. Long crack extending from shoulder to base, and forming an H on undeside. Heavy chipping to one handle. A small chip to the ends of opposite handle. Glazed-over rim chip. H 13 3/4".
