Extremely Rare Glazed Stoneware Bird-on-Pot Whistle, probably Ohio origin, circa 1855, in the form of an ovoid jar surmounted by a hand-modeled and applied bird with spread wings and long tail. Surface covered in a brownish glaze over a grayish-tan ground. Highly unusual form. Provenance: The Stradlings; Old Salem Toy Museum. Loss to bird beak. Otherwise excellent condition. H 2 1/4" ; Length 2 3/4".
