Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "H.C. SMITH / ALEXA / D.C.," circa 1830, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, rounded rim, and applied tab handles, decorated with an elaborate floral design featuring a circular blossom. Reverse decorated with three cobalt leaves. Large restored flake on front to left side of decoration, including significant painted restoration to this damage. Restoration to one handle. Two small chips to opposite handle. Short hairline on underside. A few minor base chips. H 11 1/2".
