Important Yale Unversity Stoneware Vase with Elaborate Sgraffito Decoration, Dated " '97," finely-potted large-sized vase with ovoid midsection and tall flaring neck, the surface covered in an Albany slip glaze and decorated with various sgraffito designs. One side features a wreath surrounding the name "YALE". Reverse features an open book surrounding the following two slogans: "LUX ET VERITAS" and "SIGILL : COLL : YALEN : NOV : PORT : NOV : ANGL :". A third side of vase inscribed "B.G.B. / Oct. / 22 '96," and a fourth side reads " '97". Finely-carved vine design around neck. Base incised "Fred Emmons". One of the finest examples of Yale University stoneware we are aware of. Mint condition. H 14".
