Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Incised Birds, Dated 1821, New York or New England origin, possibly Manhattan, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and slightly-flared rim, decorated with the date "1821" and two incised crested birds perched on leaves on the front, the reverse with an incised foliate design. This foliate design is most commonly associated with Manhattan, NY stoneware, produced ten or twenty years prior to this jar's manufacture. Desirable size and excellent decoration. Spidering cracks on underside, continuing onto midsection of front and back. Minor glaze-over rim chip. H 7 1/4".
