Rare Two-Sided Clayville, PA Stoneware Advertising Jar, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO, PA," circa 1875, one-gallon cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, stenciled in cobalt on one side "GILLESPIE & PARSONS / CLAYVILLE / JEFF. CO., PA." Reverse stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO, / PA." The town of Clayville no longer exists, but is now part of the well-known town of Punxsutawney. Provenance: Recently found in the basement of a Western PA home. Hairline on underside, extending onto base. Additional hairline at midsection, visible on interior only. Small stone ping to shoulder. Some discoloration to surface. H 10 1/4".
