Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant on Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT.," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with sloped shoulder and thick spout, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt design of a pheasant with crest, turned head, and long tail, perched on a tree stump. Large curving crack on side of jug. Staining to surface. Base chips. Two spout chips. H 13 1/2".
