Multi-Glazed Redware Tankard Pitcher, Strasburg, VA origin, late 19th century, cylindrical form with pronounced foot, heavily-tooled shoulder, flaring rim, and ribbed handle. Surface decorated with splashes of green and brown over cream-colored slip, and coated in a clear lead glaze. Literature: This exact pitcher is pictured in Pottery: A Utilitarian Folk Craft by Elmer Smith, p. 19. Professional restoration to rim and 3" section near base. Glaze wear to handle, base, and a small area of shoulder. Y-shaped hairline in underside. Minor flake to midsection. H 9 1/2".
